The police would get involved if it got too lively, so everyone grew frustrated, and modest versions of the festivals were held only by the people who wanted to protect our traditions. Usually the preparations for the festival started around a month before the event, but in the time Platinum Jail was in operation the size of the festival was significantly reduced. The summer festival in Midorijima is huge, and there’s a great feeling on the island as the time to hold it approaches. Summer came, and when it’s summer, that means the festival. It seemed like only recently there were cherry blossoms and rain, and before I knew it you could hear the sounds of cicadas. I was about to tell him this, but before I could Granny said to him, with a sour look on her face, “It’s not ‘as though’ you’re part of the family, you already are family.” I was glad that Clear thought of us as family too, but there was one thing he said that I wanted to correct. If you think about it, the only person Clear has been able to call family was the grandfather who picked him up. One day, when we were all sitting at the dining table together talking about these things, Clear laughed really happily and said “It’s as though I’m part of the family, and every day is really fun.”īeing scolded, being sad, laughing together, being happy, everything that happens in this house is fun. Even though he’s sad when he makes a mistake and gets scolded by Granny, he seems like he’s still having fun despite it. Given his personality, he’d probably feel bad if we told him he didn’t have to do anything.Įven though sometimes he’s made outrageous mistakes like flooding the house, or making a huge mess of the garbage, Clear worked hard every day to learn to do things properly.Īt first, Granny would keep telling Clear how thankful she was, and now she regularly entrusts all the housework to him. He’s happy to know that he’s able to assist me and Granny. She’s treating him as if he were family, not just a freeloader.Īnd more than anything Clear seems to really enjoy helping around the house.
As I see it, saying this was her way of expressing her love for Clear. Granny always says that those who don’t work don’t eat. Of course, Granny said he couldn’t just live here as a freeloader, so it was decided Clear would help with the housework, doing things like cleaning up and going shopping in her place. I wasn’t able to repair Clear by myself, and had already given up, thinking it was impossible, but… Clear returned to me.Īt the time I was in shock and crying, and in general it was just a lot to deal with, but then after discussing with Granny, we decided that Clear could live together with us. We weren’t going to see each other again.
